How Hop on Hop off collects and processes personal data under the GDPR. Questions? Email us at info@livingmeta.ai.
Last updated: 28 September 2026

Hop on Hop off lets you "hop on" live streams from moving vehicles, boats and people, and keeps a logbook of the parts of the world you have seen through them. This policy explains which personal data we process when you use the website (the "Service"). It is written in plain language.

1. Who we are (the controller)

The data controller is LivingMeta, established in Leiden, the Netherlands:

2. The personal data we process

a. About you, the viewer

b. About the people in the streams

We show live streams and live positions that streamers, skippers, race participants and other travellers publish themselves: via location services such as RealtimeIRL, StreamIRL, Garmin inReach, SPOT, PredictWind, Glympse or race trackers, via AIS for ships, and via the public pages of the streaming platforms. We process their public channel name, stream title, the live position and speed of the vehicle, and a derived place name. We do not collect contact details, and we do not show locations that people have not published themselves.

We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics profiling, and we do not sell personal data.

3. Why we use this data, and our legal basis

PurposeLegal basis (GDPR art. 6)
Keep your logbook, discovered world and leaderboard positionsPerformance of a contract (6(1)(b))
Let you sign in and keep your logbook on every devicePerformance of a contract (6(1)(b))
Show live streams with the live position of the vehicle, and build a ride's route from itOur legitimate interests (6(1)(f)), using positions the person made public
Keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and cheating on the leaderboardOur legitimate interests (6(1)(f))
Maintain and improve the Service using aggregated dataOur legitimate interests (6(1)(f))

4. Streamers: how to opt out

If you appear on Hop on Hop off and don't want to, email info@livingmeta.ai with your channel name. We will remove you from the Service and block your channel from being picked up again. Informing every streamer individually would take a disproportionate effort (GDPR art. 14(5)(b)); this public notice takes its place.

5. Players and maps from other services

When you hop on, the player of the platform that carries the stream (Twitch, YouTube, Kick, VK Video Live or the camera's own video server) loads directly in your browser. That platform then receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy. The same goes for map tiles from OpenStreetMap and Esri (satellite imagery) and for the scripts we load from the jsDelivr and unpkg content delivery networks. If you sign in with Google, Twitch, Discord or Facebook, that service confirms who you are and shares your account identifier, name and email address with us. These services act as independent controllers.

7. International transfers

Our hosting is in the European Union. Resend and some of the services in §5 are based outside the European Economic Area (e.g. in the United States). Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, this happens under appropriate safeguards, principally the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

8. How long we keep data

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, rectify it, request erasure, restrict or object to processing, and data portability. You can download all your data and delete your logbook and account yourself, on My data (top right). For anything else, email info@livingmeta.ai with your display name on the leaderboard. We will respond within the statutory period (normally one month).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data-protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl). If you are in another EU/EEA country, you may contact your local supervisory authority.

10. Cookies

We set two essential cookies: hoho_viewer, that links your browser to your logbook, and session, that keeps you signed in (both valid for up to one year). We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. Embedded players may set their own cookies (see §5). You can delete cookies in your browser settings; you will then start a new, empty logbook.

11. Security

We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), restricted server access and encrypted backups. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure; please contact info@livingmeta.ai if you suspect any unauthorised access.

12. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

13. Disclaimer

All streams and positions come from third parties. Hop on Hop off does not host any video and is not affiliated with Twitch, YouTube, Kick, RealtimeIRL or any other source. Positions can be delayed or inaccurate; rankings are for fun.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date and, where the change is significant, take reasonable steps to let you know.
